Previously, on Saturday, April 11, Orlen reduced the prices of both basic fuels – Ekodiesel diesel oil by PLN 90, to PLN 6,720 per cubic meter, and unleaded Eurosuper 95 petrol by PLN 21, to PLN 5,365 per cubic meter.

From March 31, all stations in Poland have maximum fuel prices, temporarily introduced as part of the government regulatory package “Fuel Prices Lower”, intended to limit the increase in prices of these products. These prices are determined based on the average wholesale price of these products on the domestic market, plus excise duty, fuel surcharge, as well as a sales margin of PLN 0.30 per liter and VAT.

According to the announcement of the Minister of Energy published on Monday, on Tuesday a liter of unleaded 95 petrol will cost a maximum of PLN 6.12, unleaded 98 petrol – PLN 6.70, and diesel oil – PLN 7.58. This means a decline compared to the maximum prices that were in force on the weekend and Monday.

Last weekend, from Saturday, April 11, to Monday, April 13 inclusive, the maximum price of unleaded 95 gasoline was PLN 6.14, unleaded 98 gasoline – PLN 6.73, and diesel oil – PLN 7.68. For comparison, on the first day of maximum fuel prices, i.e. March 31, a liter of unleaded 95 petrol cost PLN 6.16, unleaded 98 petrol – PLN 6.76, and diesel oil – PLN 7.60.

Maximum fuel prices are announced by the Ministry of Energy every day, and are valid from the day following their publication in Monitor Polski, and in the case of announcements before non-working days and holidays – until the next business day inclusive.

On Monday, the Ministry of Finance announced that the lower excise tax on gasoline and diesel oil, which is also part of the “Lower Fuel Prices” package, will remain in force until the end of April. According to the previous regulation, the reduced excise tax rate was to apply until April 15.

“The extension was made due to the continuing unstable situation on fuel markets caused by the conflict in the Middle East,” explained the Ministry of Finance in a statement on Monday. Excise duty on fuels was reduced to the lowest level allowed by the European Union, i.e. 29 groszy per liter of gasoline and 28 groszy per liter of diesel oil.

The war in the Middle East, after the US and Israel's attack on Iran on February 28, resulted in an increase in global crude oil prices, as well as in the prices of ready-made fuels, which translated into retail prices of these products at stations, including in Poland.

As brokers reported on Tuesday, oil prices are falling and remaining below $100 per barrel. The commodity is falling in response to signals that Washington and Tehran may resume peace talks after the US blockade of the Strait of Hormuz began.

A barrel of WTI crude oil for May deliveries is priced at $97.40 on NYMEX in New York – down by 1.70 percent, while a barrel of Brent crude oil on ICE for June deliveries is priced at $98.61 – a drop of $0.75. (PAP)
