The Italian parliament has tightened the penalties for abuse of animals

Penalties up to two years in prison for abrasion of animals and up to four years in the event of killing, the act adopted on Thursday definitively by the Italian parliament introduces. The possibility of imposing an alternative penalty was repealed. The Senate adopted the law adopted last year by the Chamber of Deputies.


The draft law tightening the dimension of penalties was reported by the deputy of the center -right coalition of Michel Vittoria Brampilla, for years involved in activities for the protection of animals.
The act states that its purpose is “direct protection of animals, not feelings for them on the part of people.”
Under the new regulations, a fine for organizers of events and professions, during which violence against animals occurs from 15,000. up to 30 thousand euro. The penalty for organizing animal fights has been increased from 2 to 4 years in prison, and for their owners it will be 30,000. euro.
For killing the animal, the penalty will be from half a year to 4 years in prison and up to 60,000. euro fines.
Up to 2 years imprisonment will be threatened with abuse and this punishment can no longer be converted into alternative as it was before.
5,000 Euro – this is the highest fine for holding pets on the chain.
Penalties for smuggling animals, which in Italy, is a frequent phenomenon has also been tightened. From other European countries, puppies, usually sold in the black market, are imported from other bad conditions. The new act is threatened not only by a fine, but also a penalty of imprisonment from 4 to 18 months and an additional 6 to 30 thousand. euro fines.
