Merz announced “progress” in the return of Ukrainian draft dodgers. Zelensky replied

“We are having negotiations in the European Union, which we have already conducted and which we will now try to strengthen again,” said the head of the German government.

Berlin supports Kyiv's efforts in this regard, Merz said.

“This is absolutely necessary so that Ukraine can defend itself, so that the unity of Ukrainian society is preserved and so that Ukraine can truly be restored. And we see tangible progress here in the interests of both sides,” he noted.

Zelensky, in turn, emphasized that there are different young people outside of Ukraine.

“I agree with you that those young people who are of mobilization age went abroad, they left temporarily, but it turned out that for years. Many of them left, violating Ukrainian legislation, the relevant services of both countries should deal with this issue. As for these people, our Armed Forces would like them to return, of course… And there are other young people, not of mobilization age, who left, they have the right to do so,” the president added.
