Hungary is selling state-owned properties before the elections. Experts comment

According to an analysis by G7.hu, since the end of 2024, the state has sold several hundred properties, including ministerial buildings, office buildings and construction plots. The value of these transactions, in some cases, even reached several billion forints.
The portal points out that the sales wave started in 2024, but the greatest intensity took place in the first quarter of 2026. At that time, according to data from the state property manager MNV, approximately 500 objects were sold, and the number of auctions was even greater.

“It is impossible not to notice that the sales boom could have been a deliberate action before the elections” — notes G7.hu. The portal emphasizes that in some cases, properties were sold even though they were still used by state institutions.
One of the most controversial cases was the sale of the Ministry of Interior building in the prestigious 5th district of Budapest. The facility was put up for auction in September 2025, after it was previously removed from the list of buildings under conservation protection. The property was sold for nearly 51 billion forints (approximately PLN 597 million) to the Eagle Hills development company from the United Arab Emirates.. The company planned to build a luxury district with skyscrapers, referred to as a “mini-Dubai”. However, the project was not implemented.
Other strategic properties were also put up for sale, such as the complex belonging to the Budapest Electrical Company (Elmu) in the 13th district for 7.7 billion forints (PLN 90.01 million), the building of the National Revenue and Customs Office (NAV) in the 5th district for 6.5 billion forints (PLN 76.05 million) or the building of the Prime Minister's Office on Garibaldi Street in the 5th district.

The G7.hu portal published a detailed list of properties whose sales exceeded HUF 1 billion, analyzing the ten most expensive transactions.
