The lower excise tax on gasoline and diesel oil will apply until the end of April, the Ministry of Finance announced. The regulation on this matter was published on Monday in the Journal of Laws. The cost of this reduction for the budget is approximately PLN 750 million.

According to the previous regulation, the reduced excise tax rate was to apply until April 15. Excise duty was reduced to 29 gr per liter of petrol and 28 gr per liter of diesel oil, i.e. to the lowest level allowed by the European Union.
“The extension was made due to the continuing unstable situation on fuel markets caused by the conflict in the Middle East,” the Ministry of Finance said in a statement.
The excise tax reduction is part of the package “Fuel Prices Lower” (CPN). The government introduced these regulations at the end of March in response to rising oil prices due to the conflict in the Middle East. The package also includes a reduction in VAT on fuels from 23% to 8%. It introduces maximum prices for petrol and diesel, announced on working days by the Minister of Energy.
The cost of the VAT reduction on fuels for the state budget is approximately PLN 930 million, and excise tax reductions are approximately PLN 750 million – it was also reported. The calculations concern reductions in the period March 30 – April 30 this year.
“The government assumes that these solutions are temporary,” the statement added. (PAP)
