For his part, Putin gave assurances that Russia and Brazil have been able to achieve a lot in recent years to strengthen their relationships.

“Opportunity” to discuss also Ukraine

On the same occasion, Lula reiterated her criticism of the economic policies of US President Donald Trump, in full commercial war launched by Washington.

According to the Brazilian leader, the customs tariffs recently imposed by the US “unilaterally undermine the great idea of free exchange”, as well as that of a “reinforcement of multilateralism”.

Prior to the Kremlin meeting, a high Brazilian diplomatic responsible said that this will be “a discussion opportunity” about the conflict in Ukraine, following the futile attempts of Brasil and Beijing to play the role of mediators.

After Moscow, Lula will take a visit to China, between 11 and 13 May.
