US-Iran peace negotiations in Islamabad without agreement

According to the Iranian Tasnim agency, excessive demands from the American side made it difficult to reach an agreement and develop a settlement framework. In turn, Iran's Prees TV reported that various issues, including the Strait of Hormuz and the Iranian nuclear program, were points of contention in the US talks with Iran.

Iranian state television IRIB wrote in the Telegram messenger about “unreasonable demands” of the US. “The Iranian delegation conducted tireless and intensive negotiations for 21 hours, defending the interests of the Iranian people. Despite numerous initiatives on its part, unreasonable demands from the American side prevented progress in the negotiations. Therefore, the talks were terminated,” IRIB said.

JD Vance has left Islamabad

Vance was the first to announce the lack of agreement at a short press conference after the conclusion of Saturday's talks. — We did not reach an agreement with Iran because Iran decided not to accept our terms Vance said.

We clearly defined our red lines on what we were willing to accommodate them on and what we weren't willing to accommodate them on, and we made that as clear as possible, and they chose not to accept our terms. – he emphasized.

Vance admitted that the conversations concerned, among others: unlocking frozen Iranian funds and many other issues and noted that the American delegation was “quite flexible and understanding”.

He did not specify whether and when the next round of talks is planned. Iranian media earlier reported that the talks were to continue on Sunday. However, Vice President JD Vance left Islamabad on Sunday. As reported by AFP, his plane took off from the capital of Pakistan after 7 local time (4 in Poland).

US-Iran peace talks

US-Iran peace talks in Islamabad began on Saturday afternoon. The Pakistani authorities acted as a mediator in the negotiations, which began with separate meetings between the country's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Iranian and US delegations. Vance praised the Pakistani hosts, noting that they were not to blame for their fiasco.

The Iranian delegation is headed by the speaker of parliament Mohammad Bager Ghalibafand it also includes, among others, Minister of Foreign Affairs Abbas Aragchi. The American delegation, in turn, consists of the vice president J.D. VanceDonald Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff and son-in-law of the US president Jared Kushner.

Saturday marked six weeks since Israel and the US began war against Iran. Two days later, the Israeli military operation began in southern Lebanon, which – as the government of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu declares – is intended to destroy the Iranian-financed terrorist group Hezbollah.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, Iran and the US agreed to a two-week ceasefire, which resulted in the start of peace talks.
