Russia accuses Ukraine of violating the Easter truce. Drone attacks in Kursk and Belgorod

The governors of two Russian border regions, Kursk and Belgorod, said that there were attacks by Ukrainian drones, resulting in five injuries, after the Easter truce between Russia and Ukraine came into force, reports Reuters.

The Easter truce between Russia and Ukraine came into force at 16:00 Moscow time and is expected to be observed until midnight Monday to Sunday.

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced an Easter ceasefire on Thursday, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he would respect it. Reuters could not independently verify information on military activities during this period.

Aleksandr Hinstein, the governor of the Kursk region, wrote on the Max network that a drone hit a gas station in the city of Lgov, injuring three people, including a child.

In neighboring Belgorod region, Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said two people were injured in drone attacks in Shebekino and Graivoron, two towns on the border with Ukraine.

He also said that artillery shots were also recorded in Sebekino, which damaged several buildings. Gladkov did not specify the time of the alleged attacks, but his post appeared after the ceasefire took effect.

A similar truce took place last year, but the two countries accused each other of violating it.

Zelenskiy has proposed a cessation of hostilities on several occasions, but has been rebuffed by Moscow, which has announced it wants a permanent peace deal.
