The network, made up of Austrian and Romanian citizens, is suspected of having committed more than 1,300 acts of fraud from November 2023 until now, writes Kleine Zeitung.
The group consisted of 10 men and one woman, aged between 19 and 50. Except for one person who had Austrian citizenship, the rest are Romanians.
According to the authorities, members of the group rented vacation apartments, which they used as delivery points for various orders of goods. The products were ordered on behalf of some companies, but they were no longer paid for.
Afterwards, the goods were transported and sold on the wholesale black market in Bucharest, generating substantial illegal profits.
Investigators estimate that more than 300 Austrian companies were damaged, with the total damage amounting to approximately 160,000 euros.
Investigations are ongoing to establish the full extent of the criminal activity and identify all individuals involved.
