Border Police discovered an ingenious method used by smugglers to hide cigarettes

An ingenious smuggling method was recently discovered by border guards in Botosani. They stopped in traffic a minibus with a trailer, both registered in Ukraine, and found that illegal cigarettes were hidden in lego pieces.

Border police officers from the Botosani Territorial Service have discovered and confiscated goods likely to be counterfeit, worth over 43,000 lei, following an action carried out in the area of competence. Within the operation, cosmetics were also raised, which were handed over to the customs bodies, a border police statement said.

“On September 11, around 8:00 pm, a border police patrol stopped for control, in the border town of Pomârla, two minibuses with a trailer, both registered in Ukraine”, notes the quoted source.

In the first minibus, the police discovered 80 perfumes and several clothing items, all bearing the name of protected brands, suspected of being counterfeit. The cigarettes were hidden by an ingenious method: concealed in lego pieces, cigarette with cigarette. The goods, estimated at 43,000 lei, were confiscated, and on behalf of the driver, a criminal case was drawn up for putting into circulation of the counterfeit products.

In the second minibus, police found 4,590 bottles with gel peel, UV lamps, electric pile accessories, serums and cosmetics. These products were handed over to the Iași Regional Customs Directorate, and the drivers were sanctioned with 8,000 lei each.

The border police draws attention to the increasingly inventive methods used by smugglers and emphasizes that such actions are firmly investigated to protect legality and public safety.
