The OMV company will have a new boss. She is the first woman in the company's history to hold the position of CEO

The Austrian energy group OMV, the majority shareholder of OMV Petrom, announced on Friday the appointment of the Irish Emma Delaney to the position of general director, becoming the first woman to lead the company listed on the Vienna Stock Exchange, reports AFP, taken by Agerpres.

Emma Delaney, who will succeed Alfred Stern, proved to be “the best candidate following the international selection process” due to her vast professional experience, OMV informed in a press release.

The Irish woman's mandate, which begins on September 1, is three years, with the possibility of a two-year extension by mutual agreement.

The appointment requires the approval of the OMV supervisory board at the next meeting, the date of which has not yet been announced.

If confirmed, Emma Delaney “will become the first female CEO in the history of OMV, giving the company an even greater international visibility”, said Edith Hlawati, vice-president of the Supervisory Board of OMV, in the statement.

Emma Delaney is currently a member of the executive board, responsible for one of the three global divisions of the British oil group BP and leads an organization with more than 50,000 employees in approximately 50 countries, OMV said.

There are very few large international oil and gas companies that have a woman in charge. As of April 1, the British giant BP is headed by the American Meg O'Neill, the first woman at the head of one of the major oil companies. Vicki Hollub also heads the American company Occidental Petroleum.

The Austrian group OMV Aktiengesellschaft owns 51.156% of the shares of OMV Petrom, and the Romanian state, through the Ministry of Energy, 20.698%, according to the data displayed by the Bucharest Stock Exchange.
