The building leased for 18 years by the Ministry of Economy without collecting a single penny has re-entered the state's patrimony, Minister Dărău announces

Economy Minister Irineu Darău announced on Friday that the building in Olteniţei Road, occupied for 18 years without the authorities collecting rent, has returned to the state's heritage, reports News.ro.

“Do you remember the building on Olteniţei road, which my colleague, Radu Miruţă, discovered had been occupied for years, without the state collecting rent? On August 1, 2025, I clarified the legal situation and registered the building as state property,” the economy minister said on Friday in a message published on Facebook.

“At the same time, the court action was opened for the eviction of those who occupied the space without the right”, he added.

Irineu Darău also stated that the court ordered the eviction in November 2025.

The minister states that the occupants refused to evacuate the building

“As soon as I arrived at the ministry, I checked the situation and continued the action, because the abusive occupants did not have the good sense to respect the court's decision. Because the space was not vacated voluntarily, we went ahead and started the foreclosure procedure. In this context, I received notification that the space will be vacated”, the minister added.

“After 18 years, the state finally effectively recovers an asset that was used without right and from which no timber was collected. During all this time, several companies operated in the building, and the spaces were also sublet, without these revenues reaching the public budget. We went through all the legal stages, to the end, and the result is clear. The building returned to the state's heritage”, added Irineu Darău.

He assured that the procedure will be followed “whenever necessary”: “I assure you that, as long as I am a minister, I will not tolerate such situations and I will deliver the results”.

Former economy minister Radu Miruță revealed last summer that an office building under the administration of the ministry, located in Bucharest, was occupied for almost two decades without the state collecting any rent, although the premises were rented and even sublet.

“Perhaps you have heard of theft with a bag, a trailer or a trunk…But with the whole building?! This is certainly new. I was told not to break the bank, to leave them as others have left them so far. I am sending only one message: excluded!”, the minister wrote in a post on Facebook.

Miruță specified that it is a building with an area of 1,500 square meters, in which there are 54 offices.
