President Nicușor Dan declared that the explosion that occurred on Friday morning in a block of flats on Calea Rahovei in the Capital “is a terrible tragedy that should not have happened”.

In a Facebook post on Friday evening, the head of state said his thoughts “go out to the injured, to the grieving families and to all those now going through terrible times”.

“It is outrageous and inadmissible that, in Romania in 2025, the safety of citizens is put at risk due to negligence or irresponsible decisions. I demand the assumption of responsibility by all those involved, regardless of whether we are talking about public institutions or private companies. Those who knew and did not act, those who allowed, through inaction or negligence, for this chain of mistakes to culminate in death and destruction, they must answer,” the president added.
