The former presidential candidate Călin Georgescu and the mercenary leader Horațiu Potra, extradited from Dubai, are summoned on Monday before the judges of the Bucharest Court of Appeal in the case in which they are accused of serious crimes for the destabilization of Romania. Potra is brought from prison, while Georgescu is under judicial control. The magistrates will decide whether the trial can begin and what preventive measures are required.
Two files in which Horațiu Potra is accused have deadlines today, at the Bucharest Court of Appeal. In the first, the head of the mercenaries, his son and grandson find out whether or not they remain in pre-trial detention. In the second, Potra is tried alongside Călin Georgescu, according to Digi24.
The case is currently in the preliminary chamber, the stage in which the judges analyze whether the trial can begin.
In this case, Georgescu was sent to court, on September 16, for six crimes, the most serious being complicity in the attempt to commit actions against the constitutional order.
Horațiu Potra, the mercenary's son and grandson, as well as 20 of Potra's “lieutenants”, are accused of attempting to commit actions against the constitutional order, non-compliance with the regime of weapons and ammunition, non-compliance with the regime of explosive materials, any operations with pyrotechnic articles carried out without right and public instigation.
During the investigation, Potra fled the country with his son and grandson, but was extradited on November 20 from Dubai. Potra is currently in pretrial detention, together with his son and grandson.
Călin Georgescu is placed under judicial control. He contested the restrictive measures, including the ban on leaving Romania and the obligation to report to the police periodically. At the same time, Georgescu is also sent to court in another criminal case, the one for legionary propaganda.
Both try, through the defenses formulated, to send the file back to the Prosecutor's Office.
