Wholesale price reduction

According to the group's wholesale price list, on Thursday, Ekodiesel diesel oil costs PLN 6,803 per cubic meter, i.e. PLN 147 less than the day before, while Eurosuper 95 unleaded petrol costs PLN 5,415 per cubic meter, i.e. PLN 90 less than the day before.

Having previously changed wholesale fuel prices, Orlen reduced the price of Ekodiesel diesel oil by PLN 38, to PLN 6,950 per cubic meter. and at the same time increased the price of unleaded Eurosuper 95 petrol by PLN 55, to PLN 5,505 per cubic meter.

The war in the Middle East, after the US and Israel's attack on Iran on February 28, resulted in an increase in global crude oil prices, as well as in the prices of ready-made fuels, which translated into retail prices of these products at stations, including in Poland. Due to rising fuel prices, the government announced over a week ago a temporary “Fuel Prices Lower” regulatory package intended to limit the price increase of these products.

From March 31, maximum prices for individual fuels apply at all stations throughout the country. They are determined based on the average wholesale price of these products on the domestic market, plus excise duty, fuel surcharge, as well as a sales margin of PLN 0.30 per liter and VAT.

Maximum prices – rates for Thursday

The announcement of the Minister of Energy, published on Wednesday in Monitor Polski, shows that on Thursday the maximum price of a liter of unleaded 95 petrol, including VAT, is PLN 6.27, the maximum price of unleaded 98 petrol, including VAT, is PLN 6.88 per liter, while the maximum price of diesel oil is to be no more than PLN 7.83 per liter, including VAT.

This means that the maximum prices of both types of gasoline on Thursday will be higher than Wednesday's prices, and the maximum prices of diesel oil will be lower than on Wednesday.

On the first day of maximum fuel prices at stations, i.e. March 31, a liter of unleaded 95 petrol cost no more than PLN 6.16, unleaded 98 petrol – PLN 6.76, and diesel oil – PLN 7.60.

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that the government would “play it safe” and did not intend to give up the “Lower Fuel Prices” package in connection with the truce in the Middle East.

– We do not intend to give up the mechanism we have introduced, because we will be safe. All the more so because the cold one is still very hot, to be honest, emphasized the head of government. Tusk assessed that the conclusion of the truce has “direct consequences when it comes to fuel prices.” – I think that from Friday the positive effect of the ceasefire (in the Middle East – PAP) at Polish gas stations will be felt – added the Prime Minister.

On the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, US President Donald Trump announced that he had agreed to a two-week ceasefire provided that Iran agreed to immediately open the Strait of Hormuz. Since it was blocked by Iran, traffic through this strategically important sea route for the transport of oil has dropped by over 90%.

Experts indicate that there is still uncertainty about the flow through the Strait of Hormuz. On Wednesday, Iran's state-run Fars news agency reported that tanker traffic through the strait had been suspended again following the Israeli attack on Lebanon.

According to brokers, oil prices are rising strongly again after the sharpest drop in prices since April 2020 caused by President Trump's announcement that he agreed to the proposed ceasefire in the conflict with Iran – a barrel of WTI crude oil delivered on V costs USD 98.07 on the NYMEX in New York, up by 3.88%, while Brent crude oil on ICE on VI is valued at USD 97.50 per barrel, up by USD 2.90.(PAP)
