We know AI, but we cannot apply it at work

79 percent employees declare that they use AI tools, but only 25 percent of them use them for professional purposes – according to the Minds & Roses study for Lazarski University. This may indicate that they do not fully know how to use them at work and whether they can do it. Some of them may be afraid that this will show that technology can replace them. This concern also applies to young people starting their careers. The rapid development of artificial intelligence is one of the main factors changing the labor market and the competencies needed there.

Data from the World Economic Forum “Future of Jobs Report 2025” are not optimistic – nearly 40 percent. employee skills will become obsolete or require changes by 2030. Technology, including the development of AI, plays one of the most important roles in this. 86 percent employers around the world believe that within five years it will become crucial in business operations.

– The competences of the future will, of course, be related to artificial intelligence. She is developing very strongly and quickly. In fact, we must be prepared for the fact that we may no longer need some professions because artificial intelligence will be able to replace them, says Dr. Joanna Beck from Lazarski University to the Newseria agency.

– In addition to what is related to artificial intelligence, it is very important that we also start checking what soft skills we have, what our emotional intelligence is, how we can cooperate with people and communicate with artificial intelligence, what our response to it is and our mental resilience.

According to the report prepared for Lazarski University by Minds & Roses as part of the project “Perspective and direction of development of higher education based on changes and development of the labor market”, implemented as part of the “Science for Society II” program, it is difficult to indicate specific key competences of the future. However, skills that combine digital competences with soft ones, such as creativity, flexibility, empathy, critical thinking and readiness for lifelong learning, are gaining in importance.

– The professions of the future will certainly be those that allow people to use artificial intelligence. It will be a developing one coaching market regarding how to use artificial intelligence, how to create a balance between using it and being here and now – lists Dr. Joanna Beck. – These will definitely be competitions that will allow us to find our way in a changing world, that's for sure psychological support. It will definitely be all of them skills and consulting that will allow us to know what artificial intelligence resources we can use and in what fields of science.

The report by NASK and ILO “Generative artificial intelligence and the Polish labor market” shows that in Poland less than one third of all jobs, i.e. about 5 million positions, are susceptible to the influence of GenAI. Of this, 4.9 percent these are positions with very high susceptibility. This applies to professions where existing tasks can be automated or transformed most quickly.

– We see that more and more people are giving up on people who perform repetitive tasks, such as replying to e-mails or receiving communications. Now we have bots that can manage this. It is not that these people will be displaced at all, but there will certainly be less demand for their work. Apparently, copywriters are also less and less needed, because artificial intelligence copes with it well and all language models are trained better and better – emphasizes the Lazarski University expert.

– We will most likely not need IT specialists at junior level, but we must remember that then we will not have seniors, i.e. people who are more advanced in writing statistical codes or conducting analyses. The lowest-level professions are therefore much easier to replace by artificial intelligence, but it depends on us how much we want to actually do it.

– AI often raises concerns among young people entering the labor market because it can most often replace the position of a junior. Some students have the feeling that when they enter the job market, they already lose out because they are easy to replace, and at the same time there is little willingness to implement them, because it is easier to ask a question or a task to AI than to a new employee – says Anna Siwińska, partner at Minds & Roses. – So there is definitely a challenge to see the value in implementing young people and encouraging them to realize that they are really needed here and as people they bring value that is irreplaceable.

The Minds & Roses report shows that the younger generation feels more confident in the world of technology and is eager to use AI. 75% of people use artificial intelligence tools in their private lives. employees and 89 percent students. However, only 25% of them use them in their professional work. employees.

– When we think about what this may result from, we notice that some organizations probably do not have ready processes yet and do not know how to actually use this technology in their activities. We see that employees are already ready to use AI, so we suspect this will change. The labor market will have to consider how to actually incorporate this technology into current business processes, says Konrad Siwiński, senior partner at Minds & Roses. – Employees do not yet know to what extent they can use technology in their work. On the other hand, they wonder whether if they use this technology, they will show that it can replace them, which is always a risk for the employee.

Polish enterprises do not yet see the benefits that may result from investing in AI. According to the report of the Polish Economic Institute “AI in Polish enterprises” and the data presented therein by the Ministry of Energy and Technology, 16 percent companies use artificial intelligence tools, and 23 percent of the rest plans to implement them. 77 percent enterprises that do not use them declare that they do not intend to introduce any such solutions unless necessary.

– It is certainly important to open the organization and implement new technologies, and, above all, to adapt training and processes so that employees know how to use the tools and benefits of new technology. Ethical elements of where we want to use this technology and where we want to stop it are also important. However, technology is not the only area of challenges on the labor market. Generational changes are very important, the fact that for the first time we have so many generations on the labor market at the same time and they have to start cooperating with each other, despite different needs and attitudes – says Anna Siwińska.

– We strongly encourage you to build multi-generational teams, because young employees, Generation Z, are talked about a lot on the labor market and they probably face challenges, but they definitely enter the market with technological readiness and are able to use artificial intelligence solutions – says Konrad Siwiński.
