South Korea's military released its own data on missile launches. According to the South Korean services, the short-range missiles fired were KN-23 missiles, which are the North Korean equivalent of the Russian Iskander missiles. This weapon traveled a distance of 240 to 700 km during the tests.

KCNA described the activities carried out as “regular, aimed at the constant development and modernization of weapon systems.” The tests are part of Pyongyang's broader strategy of expanding its military potential.

Pyongyang rejects dialogue with Seoul

The weapons tests take place at a time of persistently high tensions on the Korean Peninsula. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is consistently implementing a program to expand its nuclear arsenal, while rejecting any attempts to resolve the disputes diplomatically.

North Korean Deputy Foreign Minister Jang Kum Chol presented the regime's position towards its southern neighbor. According to his statement, South Korea will remain “the most hostile country.” He described the initiatives of the authorities in Seoul aimed at resuming dialogue as a completely naive and baseless “daydream”.
The regime in Pyongyang is simultaneously implementing a strategy of strengthening international ties with selected partners. The authorities are tightening cooperation with Russia and China, striving to break diplomatic isolation and strengthen their position in the region. State media reported that Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is scheduled to arrive in the country on Thursday for a two-day visit.
