VIDEO Nicușor Dan's answer, asked why he ignored the opinion of the CSM in the appointments from the heads of the large prosecutor's offices

Nicușor Dan declared, on Wednesday, that he respects the opinion of the Superior Council of the Magistracy (CSM) regarding the persons proposed for the leadership of the large prosecutor's offices, but the Romanians who elected him “expected to have a president who thinks with his head”.

Three of the candidates for these positions received negative opinions from the prosecutors section of the SCM. Among them is Cristina Chiriac, whom the head of state has now appointed to the position of general prosecutor and whom he praised in the press conference.

At the same time, Marinela Mincă, now appointed by the president as deputy chief prosecutor at DNA, was also approved negatively. Instead, Nicușor Dan rejected the candidacy of Gill Julien Grigore-Iacobici, who was applying for a deputy position at DIICOT.

On Wednesday, at the Cotroceni Palace, in the press conference in which he announced that he had accepted seven of the eight nomination proposals submitted by the Minister of Justice for the heads of the major prosecutor's offices, Nicușor Dan was asked why he “ignored” the opinion of the CSM regarding Cristina Chiriac.

“I think that when the Romanians elected a president, they expected to have a president who thinks with his head. Of course I respect the opinion of the CSM, but I have this mandate from the Romanians and I acted as I thought was best. I deeply believe that my decision is correct,” answered Nicușor Dan.

The president also said that he believes that “an outside view of prosecutors, in general, is sometimes more correct than an inside view.”

“If I ask you who is the best journalist in Romania, implicitly your subconscious will lead you to someone who looks like you. It's the same in the profession, the prosecutors from the CSM prosecutor's department, people I respect, implicitly think about how they think the activity in the prosecutor's offices should be carried out based on models they have formed. I think, on the contrary, that at this moment some people are needed to break the rhythm in the activity prosecutors”, continued Nicușor Dan.

Asked by HotNews if he does not trust the CSM, given that he did not go to the institution's meetings, and now he has passed the approvals, the head of state stated: “You have one assessment, I have another assessment. I believe very strongly in the assessment that I and, finally, my colleagues made.”
