Ilie Bolojan stated, at Digi24, that the model for correcting the magistrates' pension system must be repeated for other categories of special pensions so that the retirement age is no longer below 65, with some exceptions.
The Prime Minister said reform of magistrates' pensions must also be followed by changes to the entire special pension system, with a retirement age of 65 and a “reasonable” level of pension as key elements.
“The rule must be extended to the other categories. Whoever is in government must also intervene in the other categories that have abnormal retirement systems. In many categories today we have a retirement that means 65% of the gross which is close to 100% and a correction is needed, according to the principle of the magistrates. It must be done as soon as possible, next year,” said Bolojan.
He cited the fact that only 53% of people aged between 55 and 64 work, which affects the foundations of the Romanian economy. Consequently, the problem of early retirements compared to the standard retirement age must be solved by extending the model from magistrates to the other categories.

Early retirement should only be allowed in cases where it is about people working in toxic environments or in the case of professions that require a good physical condition for their exercise.
To exemplify the type of differentiation he has in mind, Ilie Bolojan mentioned the gendarmes. Thus, if a gendarme who works to guard an objective should not have problems doing it until an advanced age, things are different in the case of those who work in interventions, when they have to wear heavy equipment and are subject to risks including in terms of personal safety.
“There is a need for an accelerated retirement formula,” said Bolojan referring to the latter case, adding that the specifics of work will be taken into account in other cases as well.
