The official White House account on Platform X on Tuesday rejected suggestions that US forces might use nuclear weapons in an attack against Iran. This was in response to a comment from an account associated with former Vice President Kamala Harris.

On Tuesday, an account belonging to Harris' campaign staff accused Vice President JD Vance of suggesting that the US might use nuclear weapons against Iran.

Vance, who was in Budapest, said the US “has tools in its arsenal that it has not yet decided to use,” but President Trump will use them if the Iranians do not change their behavior.

“Literally nothing the VP (vice president) said here 'suggests' this (the use of nuclear weapons), you absolute buffoons,” the White House's “rapid response” account responded to X, Rapid Response 47.

On Monday, US President Donald Trump repeatedly refused to rule out any possibility of attacks on Iran, when asked if he could rule out – for example – attacks on hospitals or schools. He noted that “very few” options were off the table. He also said he had a plan to destroy all bridges and power plants in Iran within four hours. Iran has one nuclear power plant.

In a statement in Budapest during a press conference alongside Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, Vance emphasized that he was confident that the US would receive a response from Iran – positive or negative – before the deadline of the ultimatum (at 2 a.m. Polish time).

– I hope they answer correctly, because we want a world where oil and gas flow freely, where people can afford to heat and cool their homes, where they can afford to commute to work. That won't happen if the Iranians commit acts of economic terrorism, Vance said. – So they need to know that we have tools in our arsenal that we have not yet decided to use. The president of the United States can decide whether to use them, and will do so if the Iranians do not change their behavior, he added.
