7 April 15:50

Surgeons of the Krasnoyarsk Interdistrict Clinical Hospital No. 20 named after. I.S. Berzon operated on a 49-year-old patient with a rare disease – Wilkie's syndrome.

According to the regional Ministry of Health, about 500 cases of this disease have been described in the world literature. The woman could not eat normally for a long time and lost a lot of weight.

“The surgeons chose a gentle method: a modified Strong’s operation was performed in combination with skeletonization and mobilization of the superior mesenteric artery. This made it possible to reduce trauma and preserve natural anatomy,” the regional Ministry of Health said.

The operation lasted three hours. On the third day, the woman began to eat on her own without pain. On the tenth day she was discharged home in satisfactory condition.

“The patient’s quality of life suffered greatly. We chose a less traumatic intervention option. The result exceeded expectations,” noted the head of the surgical department, Alexander Tolstikov.

According to Deputy Chief Physician for Surgery Sergei Borisov, Hospital No. 20 has everything necessary to continue such operations. Therefore, the experience gained will help other patients with similar diseases.
