For the first time, the US has asked Israel to refrain from attacking certain Iranian targets – Axios

According to interlocutors, the American administration held Israel for the first time since the start of the joint operation against Iran. Washington expressed concern about the consequences of such attacks.

The strikes on oil facilities in Iran have caused fires and toxic smoke over Tehran, which could affect global oil prices. The United States has said it views such attacks only as a last resort, to be used in the event of a deliberate attack by Tehran on oil infrastructure in the region.

The administration of US President Donald Trump gave three reasons for asking to stop attacks on Iranian oil facilities: such attacks harm the Iranian population, much of which is against the regime; Trump seeks to engage with Iran's oil sector after the war, similar to his approach with Venezuela; the strikes could provoke massive Iranian attacks in retaliation against energy infrastructure in the Gulf states.

At the same time, US Republican Senator Lindsey Graham called on Israel to choose its targets carefully so as not to undermine Iran's economic prospects after the fall of the regime. US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed that US forces were not involved in the Israeli strikes.
