In Krasnoyarsk, in the workshop of sculptor Konstantin Zinich, work is underway on a monument to participants in the liquidation of the consequences of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
“Last December, the initiative of the regional public organization of disabled people, the Chernobyl Union, was supported to install such a monument and perpetuate the heroism of the liquidators. The prototypes of the sculptures were collective images of Krasnoyarsk liquidators,” the city administration said.
The sculpture will be installed on the Alley of Heroes of Chernobyl in the Sovetsky district of Krasnoyarsk. Work on preparing the pedestal will begin soon.
The mayor's office added that 393 Krasnoyarsk residents were awarded orders and medals of the USSR and the Russian Federation for the courage and heroism shown during the liquidation of the consequences of the Chernobyl accident in 1986. April 26 will mark 40 years since the accident at the nuclear power plant and the beginning of the liquidation of its consequences.
