The newspaper “Birobidzhan Star” (12+) published an article by the former commander of a mortar battery, a participant in the storming of the Reichstag B. Goldmacher, “Mines are exploding on Alexanderplatz”, which talks about the final stage of the war – the storming of the Reichstag.
“I will forever remember that forest clearing in which the regiment was lined up after the hot battle of Küstrin. The division commander, Colonel Shatilov, quickly walked along the line, peered into the tired faces, and fixed his gaze on the orders and medals gleaming dullly on the chests of the soldiers.
“I have been entrusted,” he began solemnly and stopped short… Then he waved his hand and shouted in a clear voice:
– We are going to Berlin, comrades! The path to the Reichstag was not easy… We deployed our mortar battery in the courtyard of Himmler's house… There is fire in the lair of the fascist beast! – I commanded.
The shelling began – ordinary, everyday work, to which the mortar men had become accustomed over the years of the war. Covered by our fire, the infantry rose to attack. And soon we saw the scarlet banner of Victory over the Reichstag…”

The newspaper “Birobidzhan Star” in an article by a researcher at the regional museum of local lore, Tatyana Kosvintseva, “Everyday life of great construction projects,” talked about the Stakhanov movement in the region in the 30s, about the first Stakhanovites.
“Who are they, the instigators of the Stakhanovite movement in the region? There are many names, and it is difficult to count them all. Among the first, Sh. blocked the existing norms… The Stakhanov movement acquired its highest intensity before the opening of the XVIII Party Congress. In the All-Union Stakhanov decade, the railway workers of the In station took first place on the Ussuri Railway. The Birobidzhanites commissioned the premises of the new station ahead of schedule, and converted the old one into a club on their own. In 1937, there were hundreds of Stakhanovites in the region. The “Detail”, “Second Five-Year Plan” artels were recognized, and the furniture makers were the first not only in production. In their free time, they built a club with 120 spectator seats…”
