Orthodox Krasnoyarsk residents were reminded of what they can and cannot do on Palm Sunday

April 5 9:04

On Sunday, April 5, Orthodox Christians celebrate Palm Sunday, a holiday commemorating the entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem. In Russia, the symbol of this day is the willow, which is one of the first to bloom after winter.

It is customary to buy fresh willow branches on this day. In Krasnoyarsk they are sold right on the street. For example, in the Central District there are already legal points for street sales.

The willow is consecrated on Saturday at the all-night vigil or on Sunday at the liturgy. Old willow left over from last year should not be thrown into the trash, especially on a holiday. After Palm Sunday, the branches should be burned and the ashes scattered in nature.

According to church canons, the holiday requires a special mood. On this day it is not recommended to engage in heavy physical work, cleaning, laundry, or repairs. It is better to devote time to prayer, attending worship services and communicating with loved ones. You can confess and receive communion. Also on this day, it is customary to ask for forgiveness from relatives and give alms.

The table can be varied with a fish dish and wine. You shouldn’t quarrel, curse, refuse help, or throw the old willow in the trash. People believed: clear weather promised a harvest year, rain – rich wheat, and wind – a cool summer.
