As Om1 Novosibirsk writes, the reason was the case of a client who was denied a credit card in 2023. The reason was his age over 69 years, although he was fully eligible according to financial indicators.
The authors of the appeal call such refusals direct discrimination based on age. They refer to the Constitution, articles of the Criminal Code and the Code of Administrative Offenses, as well as a letter from the Central Bank of 2022, where banks are ordered not to refuse clients based on age.
Judicial practice, they say, is contradictory. The court of first instance ordered the bank to issue the card and ordered compensation for moral damages, but the appeal overturned this decision. Appeals to the Central Bank, the prosecutor's office and the human rights ombudsmen, according to pensioners, did not yield results.
The initiators demand that the Bank of Russia force credit institutions to remove age restrictions, the prosecutor’s office to check the inaction of employees, and the judicial community to review decisions. The authors emphasize that we are talking about the rights of 15 million elderly citizens of the country.
