Stellantis is recalling more than a million Jeeps at risk of catching fire due to a malfunction

The Stellantis car group launched a service recall on Tuesday, targeting 1.3 million Jeep SUVs sold in recent years, after identifying a risk of fire due to a faulty electrical connection, EFE and Agerpres report.

Stellantis indicated in a press release that it will contact owners of these vehicles, Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Gladiator models manufactured between 2021 and 2025, to ask them to contact the dealer and schedule an inspection.

The recall affects nearly 1.08 million vehicles sold in the US, 106,000 in Canada, 23,000 in Mexico and approximately 125,000 vehicles sold in other markets worldwide.

Stellantis advice for Jeep owners who might have the problem

The action comes at the end of an internal investigation by the manufacturer, which determined that some of the affected vehicles “may have an electrical connection problem at the power steering pump harness.”

The consequence is that “in some cases this could cause the combustible materials to overheat, with the associated risk of vehicle fire”.

Pending the examination of the condition of the cars by the mechanics, Stellantis advises the owners of the vehicles to park them away from buildings and other vehicles.

Formed in 2021 following the merger between the French group PSA and the Italian-American Fiat Chrysler, Stellantis includes brands such as Peugeot, Jeep, Maserati, Fiat and Opel.
