We pay more and more for garbage collection. Price increases in many Polish cities

According to “Rzeczpospolita”, increases in waste disposal fees will be most painfully felt by the inhabitants of Warsaw. The fees will increase by approximately PLN 20, which means that residents of multi-family buildings will pay PLN 85 (per household) each month, and residents of single-family houses will pay PLN 107. However, the price increases do not end in Warsaw. Higher fees will also apply from April 1 in other cities, both large and smaller.

Higher garbage fees in many Polish cities
Fee increases apply to, among others: in Gdańsk. Their amount depends on the size of the premises. For those with an area of up to 110 sq m, the waste collection fee will be PLN 1.10 per sq m, and for apartments with an area of over 110 sq m – PLN 0.20 per sq m. Calculations by the Gdańsk City Hall show that a family living in a flat with an area of 65 sq m will pay PLN 14.30 more per month than before.

Smaller cities have also introduced higher rates, including: Gniezno, Piła, Chełmża or Nakło nad Notecią. There, fee amounts are calculated for each person in the household. In other cities, fees increased already at the beginning of this year – including: in Szczecin, Jelenia Góra and Kołobrzeg.
Local government officials indicate several reasons for the increases, including: an increase in waste, as well as an increase in the minimum wage and inflation. One of the reasons is also the deposit system, which has been operating in Poland for several months, which has deprived sorting plants of raw materials. This significantly reduces local government revenues from the sale of secondary raw materials.
