Egg prices in February 2026 were higher than 7.5%. up to 22.2 percent compared to the same period last year – according to data from the Central Statistical Office. Currently, consumers pay on average from PLN 1.05 to PLN 1.28 for one egg, compared to PLN 0.93–1.17 a year earlier.

The Central Statistical Office indicates that the increase in egg prices is only one of the elements of changes in the costs of food products before Easter. At the same time, butter became significantly cheaper – by over 30%, as well as some meats, including pork loin and some cold cuts. In turn, more expensive than last year may be, among others: ham, dill and parsley.

At the same time, the data show that Poland remains one of the largest egg producers in the European Union. In 2024, production reached a record level of 12.4 billion pieces, compared to 8.8 billion in 2005. After a decline to 9.3 billion pieces in 2021, production has clearly rebounded in recent years.

Compared to other EU countries, Poland ranks first – only France, Spain and Germany produce more eggs. This means that Polish production plays an important role on the European market, also during periods of increased demand, such as Easter.

Data from the Central Statistical Office also show that egg consumption varies regionally. The largest number of eggs per person per month falls in the Lublin Voivodeship (13.88 pcs.) and West Pomeranian Voivodeship (12.51 pcs.), and the least in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship (9.38 pcs.) and Greater Poland Voivodeship (9.60 pcs.).

Despite rising egg prices, they remain one of the key products in the Easter basket and the basis of many traditional dishes. (PAP)
