Warsaw is ruled by an oligarchy?
In his speech, Piotr Gliński emphasized that the management of Warsaw is, in his opinion, disastrous, and changing this state of affairs seems impossible. He pointed to the “law of oligarchy” that is to govern the capital. According to Gliński, for two decades the city has been operating within an unchanged system that blocks development. Despite this, the politician expressed faith in the possibility of breaking this deadlock.
Dr. Jan Śpiewak, who also spoke during the convention, focused on the role of grassroots social movements in shaping urban policy. He recalled the successes of such initiatives as stopping the reprivatization scandal in Warsaw. — The discussion on the ban on the sale of alcohol, which was a sore thumb for President Rafał Trzaskowski, is also the result of our actions, he noted.
“The Silent, Silent Majority”
Śpiewak drew attention to the lack of representation for the majority of the capital's residents. — Most Warsaw residents are unrepresented. They are the silent, silent majority. Our task is to ensure that this majority gets its vote, he emphasized.
The convention was attended by representatives of various social and tenant organizations, such as the Masovian Housing Community, the “Stop Korkom” Agreement and Miasto Jest Nasze. The meeting became a space for exchanging views and developing solutions to the problems Warsaw is struggling with.
