“I think Romania is facing three challenges at the moment. And I would start with demography. We have the fewest births every year. Last year was the lowest number of births recorded in Romania. And we have an aging population. And that is a main challenge. The second challenge is the health force, people, nurses and doctors are extremely mobile. We live in a European state, labor mobility is completely different. compared to how it was 20 years ago”, said Fady Chreih.
He added that the third challenge refers to the financing of the health system, one below the European average.
“And if we look at these three challenges and combine them with the expectations of today's patients, patients who want integrated services, personalized services, to be able to digitally access medical services and, of course, services that can be accessed as easily and as quickly as possible, what do we notice? We notice that we have an ever-widening crevasse that deepens between what the system can offer today and the needs of today's patients”, Fady Chreih also transmitted.
The current health system was configured for a different demographic of Romania
He specified that the health system was configured for a different demographic of the country.
“Today's reality is that the current health system was configured for a different demographic of Romania and for a different economy of Romania. It no longer copes. And then, logically, as an economist, you ask yourself the question of how I can increase the funding sources of the health system. And I think it's time for Romania to accelerate these honest, direct conversations about what the public health system can support through the National Insurance House and how it can encourage both employers and the population to do either health insurance, or medical subscriptions, or other forms, sources of financing to be brought into Romania's health system”, said Fady Chreih.
