As part of the investment program of JSC Russian Railways, the Krasnoyarsk Railway received 15 domestic Ermak electric freight locomotives of the 3ES5K series.
The machines are specially designed for operation on the railways of the Eastern range, characterized by difficult terrain: these are some of the most powerful AC locomotives in the country.
Electric locomotives are stationed at the Bogotol depot and are involved in transporting heavy trains weighing 7,100 tons along the Trans-Siberian Railway, as well as super-heavy coupled trains weighing more than 12 thousand tons.
This technology makes it possible to increase the volume of cargo transportation without increasing the number of trains. As a result, the throughput and carrying capacity of the highways of the Eastern range, which starts from the Krasnaya Railway, is increased.
Locomotives of this series are prepared for operation in the climatic conditions of the regions of Siberia, where there are sharp changes in air temperature, and in winter the thermometer can drop to -50 degrees.
For driver comfort, the cabs are equipped with climate control systems and ergonomic vibration-resistant seats.
Over the past 8 years, over 500 new Ermak electric freight locomotives have been delivered to the Krasnoyarsk Mainline; they replaced the VL brand locomotives. To date, the KrasRussian Railways fleet has been updated by more than 70 percent.
