The newspaper “Birobidzhan Star” (12+) wrote on April 12, 1947 that in 1947 it was 70 years since gold mining began in the Jewish Autonomous Region.

The gold-bearing region of the Lesser Khingan occupies the basins of the rivers: Sutara, Bidzhan, Dichun, Pompeevka and the upper reaches of the Bolshaya Bira. With few exceptions, this area is solid rock: the gold-bearing layer seems to lie on a thick rock cushion.

“…The first Russian gold miner came to Sutara in April 1877, and by 1926, on the map compiled by the administration of the Amur Mining District, 162 mines were listed in the Lesser Khingan gold-bearing region. In 1928, state gold mining began on Sutara. It was initially carried out using the muscular method. In 1934, the first hydraulics were installed. The Sutara Gold Team mines is one of the most advanced in our region.”

The newspaper “Birobidzhan Star” on April 12, 1964 told readers that after the construction of the Palace of Culture in Birobidzhan, the “Builder” club, which previously had a monopoly on all kinds of mass youth events, had much fewer different events. Previously, the “Builder” club hosted amateur art shows, themed evenings that were dedicated to promoting best practices, and oral journals – an interesting way to get acquainted with the latest literature from various fields of science and technology. The club hall hosted meetings, lectures, honoring production leaders, and meetings with labor veterans.

In the same newspaper, in the article “For Economic Accounting,” there is information that economic studies have been organized in the agricultural artel “Testaments of Ilyich.” Over 120 people study in primary economic schools. During the classes, practical proposals are made to help increase the profitability of the farm. “Now preparations are underway here for the introduction of economic accounting into all branches of production. The theoretical conference held recently in Waldheim was devoted to this issue.”
