Yemen's Houthi rebels are ready to join the fight against the US and Israel if the militia's military capabilities are needed, according to a Reuters report.

“We are fully prepared militarily, with all options at our disposal”a Houthi leader, who requested to remain anonymous, told Reuters.

“As for other details related to the establishment of the zero moment, those are left to the leadership and us we monitor and follow developments and we will know when the time is right to act”he added, writes Reuters.

“So far, Iran is doing well and defeating the enemy every day, and the battle is going in its favor. If something happens against that, then we can assess the situation.”

If the Houthis open a new front in the conflict, an obvious target would be the Bab al-Mandeb strait off Yemen's coast, a key shipping bottleneck and a narrow passage that controls maritime traffic to the Suez Canal after Iran effectively closed the critical Strait of Hormuz.

Direct involvement in the current conflict would not bring the same advantages to the rebels that they obtained through attacks during the Gaza war. If then their intervention propelled them onto the international stage and allowed them to capitalize on Yemenis' broad support for the Palestinians at a time of great popular discontent, now the context has changed radically.

The local population is very reluctant to support Iran, a state with huge resources that many citizens perceive as another foreign power meddling in their country's internal affairs.
