Portugal will finance the purchase of gas cylinders for people in difficult situations

On Thursday, the Portuguese government launched a program of state subsidies for the purchase of propane-butane gas cylinders. The support program resulting from rising global gas prices will be valid for at least three months.

According to the program approved by the government of Prime Minister Luis Montenegro, the Portuguese authorities will cover EUR 25 of the cost of purchasing a gas cylinder.

The program, implemented since Thursday, applies to citizens who receive minimum social benefits, including disability benefits, unemployment benefits and old-age pensions. It also covers families whose annual income does not exceed EUR 6,280.

The delivery of gas cylinders subsidized by the Portuguese government will be carried out by municipal authorities. Each person entitled to collect the cylinders will be able to receive them a maximum of twice a month. (PAP)
