I spread one layer and the weeds stop growing: the beds are clean, the crop grows on its own

If you are tired of pulling weeds every day, especially after the rains, there is a way to reduce this work significantly. The main thing is not to fight with already grown plants, and not to allow new ones to appear.

To do this, just one simple technique that was used in the old days is enough. After the vegetables have grown a little, spread a layer of straw 5–7 centimeters thick around them. Do not place it close to the stem, leave a small gap to avoid dampness.

Straw covers the soil from the sun, and without light, weed seeds simply do not germinate. It also retains moisture, so you have to water less often, and gradually rotting, enriches the soil with organic matter. The soil under the mulch remains loose, warm and alive.

Within a week, new weeds almost stop appearing. Those that were there before mulching are easily pulled out of the soft soil without effort. Vegetables suffer less from changes in humidity, get sick less often and produce a more stable harvest until frost.

Question and answer:

Can I mulch with freshly cut grass?
Yes, but it is better to dry it for 1-2 days so that it does not lock at the base of the stems. And don't put too thick a layer.

How to get rid of weeds without chemicals?
Use straw, hay or grass clippings to mulch. A layer of 5–7 cm blocks light and prevents weeds from germinating.
