Serial mini-holidays: how many days off do Romanians get on May 1 and Pentecost in 2026

2026 brings good news for employees: more public holidays fall during the week, which means more opportunities for mini-vacations.
The Labor Code provides, in article 139, the days off when no work is done in Romania, establishing the legal holidays granted to employees to mark important moments from a national, cultural or religious point of view. These days must be respected by all employers, and in situations where the activity cannot be interrupted, the employees benefit either from appropriate free time or from an increase for the work performed.
May 1st mini-holiday with a free Friday
There are 17 public holidays in 2026, 12 of which fall during the week, making the year more generous in terms of free time.
Labor Day falls on a Friday this year, which means employees will have an extra day off in addition to the weekend.
The second day of Pentecost, Monday, June 1
May 31, the first day of Pentecost, falls on a Sunday this year, a day that was free anyway, but the second day of Pentecost is Monday, June 1, when we also celebrate Children's Day. This means that employees will have an extended weekend.
