What are the causes of the conflict?
Iran has long treated Azerbaijan as part of its sphere of influence, trying to interfere in its politics and security. An example was the attempt to create the Huseyniyun organization in Azerbaijan, modeled on Hezbollah, and the attack on the Azerbaijani embassy in Tehran in 2023. Baku firmly opposes such actions and is looking for support from Israel and Turkey.
