The crime was committed on September 12 at the entrance of a residential building on Safyanov Passage – an unknown person fired several times from a submachine gun at the victim. He was wounded in his arm, but thanks to timely medical care, he survived.
At that time, it was not possible to establish the identity of the attacker and the preliminary investigation was suspended. In 2026, law enforcement officers carried out large-scale work to solve the crime. During the re-examination of the criminal case materials, two new witnesses were found. Their testimony made it possible to identify the shooter; he turned out to be a 58-year-old local resident.
“According to the information received, in 1997 in the city of Minusinsk there were two opposing groups, which included the victim and the suspect, who were on hostile terms. Having fired shots at his opponent, the attacker fled, confident that he had carried out his criminal intent to the end. Under the weight of the irrefutable evidence presented, the defendant confessed and described in detail the circumstances of what happened during the verification of the testimony on the spot,” the Investigative Committee said.
