The newspaper “Birobidzhan Star” (12+) wrote that a regional branch of the Far Eastern Bank will open in Birobidzhan in July-August this year. The bank will finance housing, communal and cultural construction.

The newspaper “Birobidzhanskaya Zvezda” published information that the Ural Research Institute of Geology, Mineralogy and Mineral Resources Exploration completed geological exploration work at the graphite deposit in the village of Soyuznoye, Oktyabrsky District.

The expedition discovered huge deposits of graphite shale. Based on the reserves explored by the expedition, the construction of a large graphite mine and a powerful factory for producing pure graphite from graphite shale will begin in the Oktyabrsky region.

March 24, 1944

In David Vayserman’s book “Birobidzhan: Dreams and Tragedy” (12+) the fact is given that on March 24, 1944, Bakhmutsky and Zilberstein organized an appeal from the factory staff. Dimitrova to all residents of the region with an appeal to take part in raising funds for the organization of two orphanages for orphans. This message stated:

“Let’s return childhood with all its joys to children who have lost their parents. Let them not know orphanhood with its grief and troubles. Let them grow up to be healthy and happy people!”

Workers and employees of this enterprise collected more than 11 thousand rubles. A special account was opened at the State Bank for these purposes. 19 collective farmers contributed 6.2 thousand rubles in cash. From general collective farm funds, the collective farmers decided to contribute 20 thousand rubles and contribute one workday each month to the fund for helping orphans.

At the collective farm “Valdheim” they collected 18 thousand rubles and contributed 16 thousand in cash. In addition, special fields were sown for the Waldheim orphanage, which was supposed to accept orphans. By November 1, 1944, 1 million 662 thousand rubles had been collected throughout the region for these purposes.

March 24, 1958

In the reference and information publication “Administrative-territorial structure of the Jewish Autonomous Region 1858-2003.” (6+) it is written that the Aur Village Council, which included the railway stations Aur, Ol, Usov Balagan, Ikura and the adjacent railway barracks, was formed on the territory allocated from the administrative subordination of the Smidovichi Village Council, based on the decision of the Khabarovsk Regional Executive Committee dated March 24, 1958 No. 83-1.

The Urma Village Council was abolished, its territory was included in the services of the Smidovichi Village Council in accordance with the decision of the Khabarovsk Regional Executive Committee of March 24, 1958 No. 83-2.

The village of Pokrovka, Smidovichi district, is classified as a workers' settlement due to the formation of industrial enterprises and population growth based on the decision of the Khabarovsk Regional Executive Committee of March 24, 1958 No. 83-3.

March 24, 1984

A meeting of the activists of the Birobidzhan city party organization was held, which discussed the progress in implementing the resolution of the bureau of the Khabarovsk regional committee of the CPSU “On the work of party organizations in the city of Birobidzhan to implement the decisions of the June (1983) Plenum of the CPSU Central Committee.”

The speaker and speakers noted the increased level of ideological, mass-political work, Marxist-Leninist and economic education of workers, lecture propaganda and political awareness of the population. This contributed to the successful solution of national economic problems. The city was awarded the challenge Red Banner of the Council of Ministers of the RSFSR and the All-Union Central Council of Trade Unions for the third time in a row. The meeting instructed the primary party organizations to strengthen organizational and mass political work in labor collectives to implement the decisions of the December (1983) and February (1984) Plenums of the CPSU Central Committee, to mobilize them for the unconditional implementation of the plans and socialist obligations of 1984 and the Eleventh Five-Year Plan as a whole.
