A new head of Consumer Protection, appointed by Prime Minister Bolojan. The proposal was made by PSD

Ilie Bolojan appointed, by decision of the Prime Minister, Bekesi Csaba-Lajos as president of the National Authority for Consumer Protection.

Bekesi is a member of the PSD, the social democrats being the ones who nominated him for this position.

Bekesi Csaba has so far held the position of executive director at the County Agency for Employment in Bihor County.

Until now, the duties of the ANPC president were exercised by the institution's vice president, Ionel Obretin.

He took over the position in September 2025 from another vice-president, Sebastian Hotca, who was acting head of ANPC also as an interim, after the dismissal of Cristian Popescu-Piedone.

Obretin is a member of the PNL county organization in Olt, led by deputy Gigel Sorinel Știrbu. In 2020, he ran for mayor of his native commune, Bucinișu, and in the 2024 parliamentary elections, he was on the PNL list from Olt county for the Chamber of Deputies.

Sebastian Hotca was removed from the head of the Authority after the DNA indicted him for abuse of office.

According to the investigators, between October 2024 and January 2025, “Hotca Sebastian Ioan, at the instigation of Nedelcea Constantin Flavius, secretary of state in the Ministry of Economy, in the exercise of his duties, would have ordered the temporary transfer of the injured person VIC from the management position held at the County Commissariat for Consumer Protection Caraş – Severin, to another management position within the ANPC, in violation of the provisions of art. 507 paragraph 8 of GEO no. 57/2019 which provides that the temporary move is made only in the interest of the institution.”
