The US threatens the EU with loss of “favorable” access to LNG. “There are other buyers”

The European Parliament will vote on Thursday on the customs agreement concluded by US President Donald Trump and EC President Ursula von der Leyen in July 2025 in Turnberry, Scotland. In it, the EU committed to reducing customs duties on some agricultural products imported from the US to Europe.
The Financial Times recalled that the agreement also includes a commitment from the EU to purchase American energy worth USD 750 billion. by 2028, including liquefied natural gas (LNG), crude oil and civil nuclear technologies.
US ambassador to the EU Andrew Puzder told the daily that the energy aspect of the trade deal would be at risk if the EU tried to change any of the terms.

If the agreement is not implemented, both sides will return to the starting point, says the US ambassador. — I think the United States will still want to do business with Europe, but the terms themselves may not be as favorable. The environment will certainly not be so favorable… There are other buyers, Andrew Puzder told the Financial Times.
The vote in the EP does not end the process of adopting the document by the EU. If the European Parliament votes in favor of the agreement, the next step will be to start interinstitutional negotiations between the EP, member states within the EU Council and the European Commission on the final shape of the agreement.
