During the combined meeting of the Sejm Environmental Protection Committees, Natural Resources and Forestry and the Health Committee, the deputy head of the health ministry Wojciech Konieczny gave MPs information on the government's work on the introduction of a total ban on the placing on the market of one-time e-cigarettes. This is to apply to both preparations containing nicotine and deprived.

“Disposable electronic cigarettes pose a clear threat to public health, in particular the young generation and non -smokers. This causes the need to completely ban on placing them on the market,” he emphasized Konieczny.

At the end of May, the Sejm adopted a law providing for a total ban on the use of e-cigarettes by minors, now it is waiting for the Senate to consider at a meeting starting on June 11.

Another project of the Ministry of Health is to go a step further.

“The planned amendment to the tobacco act involves a ban on the placing of one -time electronic cigarettes on the market. It was also banned to cover electronic disposable cigarettes with a non -contributing liquid,” said the deputy head of MZ.

He emphasized that the popularity of nicotine products increases the risk of wider access to young people to tobacco products to the same extent as electronic cigarettes of one -time use. “After the internal arrangements, the project will be published on the pages of the Government Legislation Center,” he announced. Then his public consultations will begin. The government will also have to obtain the consent of the European Commission to implement these regulations.

According to data from 2022, presented by the deputy minister, reaches over 23 percent. girls and 21 percent boys aged 13-15. “The frequency of using e -cigarettes among Polish teenagers puts them in this respect at the forefront of European Union countries,” said Wojciech Konieczny.

He also pointed to the data of the World Health Organization saying that Poland has the world's largest percentage of minors ever using e-cigarettes. Among teenagers aged 15-19, who tried electronic cigarettes, this percentage increased in Poland from 16.8 to 62.1 percent.

“WHO report also informs that There is strong evidence that the use of e-cigarettes increases the chance of smoking traditional cigarettes about three timesespecially among young people. Long -term health effects of these products are unknown, as is the health effects of double use of cigarettes ” – emphasized the deputy head of MZ.

The World Health Organization also points to the ecological problem associated with e-cigarettes. Their components, in particular the lithium-ion housing and battery, are thrown by users after one-time use and pose threats to the environment. (PAP)
