The debt of people aged 18-25 has increased almost 2.5 times in two years, according to data from the National Debt Register. The average debt per person in this age group increased from PLN 3.3 thousand during this time. PLN to 5.1 thousand zloty.

The information stated that the outstanding liabilities of all Poles, listed in the KRD, currently amount to PLN 40.7 billion. Of this amount, debtors between 18 and 25 years of age owe over half a billion zlotys, and two years ago it was PLN 226 million. It was noted that the group of young adults with financial problems is also growing rapidly – in March 2024, there were 68.7 thousand of them, and currently it is 109.2 thousand. i.e. by almost 60 percent. more.

According to the report's authors, the debt of young people is growing for several reasons that overlap.

“In this period of life, the first fixed costs appear: housing, utilities, telephone, transport, and at the same time, many people still have irregular income – they study, take up their first job, have a temporary contract,” they pointed out.

They emphasized that as young adults enter adulthood, they take on more and more obligations, such as the first rented apartment, furniture or home appliances.

The report shows that 18-year-olds have to donate PLN 1.5 million, and 25-year-olds have PLN 189.5 million. There are 2,000 in the youngest age group. debtors, and in the oldest one – 24.6 thousand. “The average debt is growing cascade. Among 18-year-olds it amounts to PLN 738, but among 25-year-olds it is ten times higher and reaches PLN 7.7 thousand,” emphasized Adam Łącki, president of KRD, quoted in the information.

Over PLN 390 million are receivables from financial institutions, including banks, lending companies, insurance companies and securitization funds, which took over the debts from the original creditors. Next, young people have to pay the most for telephone, Internet and television (PLN 44.9 million), and they have to pay PLN 41 million in courts. In turn, PLN 36.9 million are fines for driving without a ticket. The arrears of housing rents amount to PLN 13.7 million, and alimony amounts to PLN 9.6 million.

Unpaid energy bills amount to PLN 7.1 million. Young people also have arrears to educational institutions, which are waiting for PLN 2.8 million.

According to the publication, over 60 percent arrears fall on men – they have to pay PLN 346.2 million. The debt is 66.7 thousand. men. The women owe PLN 210.4 million, which breaks down to PLN 42.5 thousand. you. The most indebted young adults live in the Silesian Voivodeship, where there is a total of PLN 74.8 million of unsettled liabilities. The second one is the Masovian Voivodeship with the sum of PLN 62.1 million and this is also where the most debtors are located – 14.7 thousand. In turn, young residents of the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship have the lowest arrears – PLN 8.7 million.
