Important change in the national team! Romania loses a player before the tie with Turkey

The FRF announced on Saturday evening a change in the Romanian national team for the World Cup 2026 tie with Turkey.

Mihai Popa was injured and can no longer be part of the team, and his place will be taken by Cătălin Căbuz. The FC Argeș goalkeeper found out the news just before the match against U Cluj in the Super League play-off. .
“Change in Romania's squad for the World Cup qualification play-off matches! Mihai Popa came to the team with a muscle problem, and the medical staff decided that he would not be able to recover in time. In these conditions, the selector Mircea Lucescu summoned Cătălin Căbuz, from FC Argeș!”the release states.

Former youth international, Cătălin Căbuz gathered experience at several teams in Romanian football, evolving throughout his career at Voința Sibiu, Viitorul II, Măgura Cisnădie, Râmnicu Vâlcea, Hermannstadt, Chindia, Farul and CFR Cluj.
“I know Cătălin (No. Căbuz), I have great faith in him and I am sure he will be one of the best goalkeepers in the championship. He needed a change, another environment. There are times when a player needs to change teams, move to the next level!”admitted Dani Coman, the president of FC Argeș, about Cătălin Căbuz.
In this SuperLiga season, Căbuz played 29 games, scored 39 goals and managed to keep a clean sheet in 5 matches.
