Antique jewelry from Wodzisław Śląski. The Tax Office changes its decision

A few years ago, jewelry was found in a rubble dump in Wodzisław Śląski, the owners of which, despite all efforts, could not be identified.

After the statutory deadline expired, the court ordered the forfeiture of the found items to the State Treasury.
These included, among others: a ring with a 3-carat diamond, a gold pendant studded with diamonds and five smaller stones worth from PLN 430 to PLN 1.85 thousand. PLN each. The total value of the jewelry was estimated at over PLN 100,000. zloty.

The museum in Wodzisław Śląski applied to suspend the sale, arguing that these items may have historical value. The spokesman for the Katowice Chamber of Tax Administration, Michał Kasprzak, explained that the tax office will now ask the Silesian Provincial Conservator of Monuments in Katowice to assess whether the jewelry has historical, scientific or artistic value.
The director of the Wodzisław museum, Sławomir Kulpa, emphasized that the jewelry comes from the first half of the 20th century and is a unique testimony to the city's material culture. He also pointed out the need to conduct a full historical expertise before deciding on the further fate of the objects.
— Monuments of this type are priceless for Wodzisław Śląski. Numerous wars, fires and disasters almost completely destroyed the material heritage of the city, Kulpa noted.

The museum declared its readiness to take over the jewelry, preserve it and include it in the city's permanent historical exhibition. The museum director reminded that Pursuant to the Lost and Found Act, objects of historical, scientific or artistic value should be consulted with monument protection authorities before they are sold.
