Furniture industry. The strongest players remain on the market
In the case of the carpentry sector, over 820 companies have problems with timely payment of current invoices and loan installments. In the group of furniture manufacturers, these are 2,674 entities.
BIG InfoMonitor chief analyst Waldemar Rogowski explains the situation as a combination of various factors. “Recent years have been a period of great fluctuations for the carpentry industry – from the pandemic renovation boom, through a sharp increase in the costs of energy and raw materials, to a slowdown in the housing market. Companies operating in the wood industry had to cope with rising production costs, problems with financial liquidity and extended payment terms throughout the supply chain. The strong zloty also had a negative impact on the competitiveness of exports, especially in the face of Chinese competition,” he said in the publication.

He also indicated how companies are trying to deal with this situation and what effects it has on the Polish market. Some enterprises limit their operations or consolidate with larger players. According to the expert, the decreasing number of entities with arrears and the increasing level of arrears may mean that mainly larger companies remain on the market, having taken over some of the orders from weaker competitors.
In Rogowski's opinion, the conflict in the Middle East may negatively affect the situation of enterprises in the carpentry industry. He assessed that a prolonged war may result in an increase in the costs of energy carriers and petroleum products, and the growing uncertainty and reduced sense of security of households may negatively affect consumer sentiment and encourage households to save, which will slow down the demand for products from the furniture and carpentry industry.
As noted in the report, the carpentry industry has been one of the most important elements of the construction and renovation market for years, and the production of stairs, windows, doors, etc. is closely related to the condition of the housing market and household expenses.
