The oldest seal of Vladimir Monomakh was unearthed in Veliky Novgorod
The artifact was found at the Trinity excavation site; in recent months, more than 30 act seals have been discovered there. The latest find is dated to 1080-1090, making it the oldest of all those found previously.
In ancient times, such lead seals were hung on cords from important documents and thus certified their authenticity.
