The record-breaking drone attack on Moscow continues. The authorities are silent

Despite the record number of drones that, according to Sobyanin, took part in the raid, it passed practically without any consequences (only sporadic airport closures are known). We compared the effects of the record-breaking raid on Moscow with the two largest attacks on the capital that took place earlier – on March 11 and December 11 last year.

In the first case, when 71 drones were used, the attack caused destruction and deaths, and in the second case, the use of 41 drones led to paralysis at the capital's airports.

After the post published on Monday morning that about 250 drones had been shot down near Moscow since Saturday, Sobyanin announced the destruction of another 60 drones. The Russian Ministry of Defense has reported since Saturday that 210 drones flew towards the capital and were shot down.

What is the number of drones shot down in the latest attack on Moscow?

Were there any casualties as a result of the attack on Moscow?

Which airports in Moscow were closed during the attack?

What do experts say about the lack of visual evidence of the attack?

Neither the authorities nor the Baza, Mash and Szot channels on Telegram, which are usually the first to publish information about the effects of attacks, linked to the security forces, provided any information about casualties and destruction. During three days of intense attacks, these channels did not publish any visual evidence of the attack – photos or videos of drone wrecks, the effects of their fall or the operation of air defense.

Despite the record-breaking attack, there were no reports of paralysis at the capital's airports, despite repeated closures of Vnukovo, Domodedovo and Sheremetyevo airports.

March 11, 2025

After the attack, which was the largest airstrike on Moscow since the beginning of the war until last weekend, Sobyanin reported the destruction of 74 drones as they flew towards Moscow. The Ministry of Defense reported the destruction of 91 drones over the Moscow region.

One of the drones then fell into the parking lot of Miratorg's production complex. A security guard was killed where the drone fell, and two other people were taken to hospital, where they died. 40 cars were damaged in the parking lot.

Drones also hit a skyscraper in Ramieńsk, where apartments on the 19th to 22nd floors were damaged, and three houses in Widny. In total, at least 18 people were injured.

During and after the raid, Telegram channels linked to security forces published dozens of posts with photos and videos showing explosions in the skies over Moscow and surrounding areas, fires where drones fell, and other effects of the attack. Szot published 35 such posts, Baza – 26, and Masz – 15.

December 11, 2025

According to Sobyanin's posts, Moscow was attacked by 41 drones. It was the second-biggest attack in terms of the number of drones flying towards the capital before the raid that began this weekend.

No information was provided at that time about casualties or damage as a result of the attack. However, Stak caused the greatest chaos at the capital's airports since July. Restrictions on the operation of Vnukovo, Domodedovo and Sheremetyevo airports led to the cancellation or delay of over 200 flights. Due to the closure of airports in Moscow, the plane of the Prime Minister of Armenia could not land.

Expert opinion

The virtually complete lack of visual evidence of such a massive drone attack on Moscow looks strange, open sources analyst Kirill Mikhailov tells the agency.

Information about the largest drone attack on Moscow appeared a week and a half after disruptions to the mobile Internet in Moscow. In the morning, amid reports of a drone attack, there was a sharp increase in complaints about mobile internet access also in St. Petersburg. According to Governor Aleksander Drozdzenko, 15 drones were shot down over the region.
