How 25,000 lei were allocated from the state budget for a pro-life association in Cluj. “It doesn't look like anyone knew what they were voting for”

A number of 368 parliamentarians approved an amendment proposed by an AUR deputy allocating 25,000 lei to a pro-life association. The amendment quickly moved forward, through the package of measures approved by the parliamentarians of the government. Today, according to HotNews information, it will be reviewed.
Around 02:00, AUR deputy Ilie-Alin Coleșa supported from the rostrum in the Chamber of Deputies plenary an amendment that had been rejected in the committees.
“It is about the allocation of an amount of 25 thousand lei, less than 5 thousand euros, for an association that really supports materially, but also spiritually the people of Cluj and not only – Cluj for Life”, said the AUR deputy.
The amendment was adopted. 368 MPs voted “for”. This means that not only AUR approved it, but also PSD, PNL, USR and UDMR. 23 MPs voted “against”, 6 abstained and 2 chose not to vote.

“It really doesn't seem like anyone knew what they were voting for,” a lawmaker told HotNews. Others say the amendment is “unworkable” because the money can't go to that association.
Practically, the 25,000 lei will supplement the budget of the Ministry of Labor.
“The amount is necessary to support the counseling activities (psychological, social, spiritual) and the provision of material support (food, care products, clothing) for women in crisis of pregnancy and families in difficulty, carried out by the “Clujul pentru Viață” Association”, he writes in the justification of the amendment.
According to HotNews information, today, in the plenary session, the chapter related to the annexes for the budget of the Ministry of Labor will be reopened and the vote will be resumed. Thus, upon arriving at the Parliament, Sorin Grindeanu declared: “If things are like this, we will change. We will reopen that annex, we will cancel those amounts.”
What Cluj is for Life
“Cluj for Life is a non-governmental and non-profit organization made up of members of different ages and occupations, who strongly believe that human life must be protected regardless of the stage of development,” is the first thing that appears on the association's website.
Members say their mission is to promote “the culture of life and educate society about the value of human life.”
Among the partners and sponsors of the NGO are the Cluj County School Inspectorate, the Cluj County Agency for Payments and Social Inspection or the Avram Iancu Cluj International Airport.
On the blog of the website Cluj for Life there is a text with the title “The right to abortion vs. The right to life – a social or political problem?”
In the text, the US Supreme Court decision in Roe vs. Wade, which made the right to abortion guaranteed by the constitution, is classified as a mistake. The Supreme Court decision was overturned in the first term of the Trump administration.
“The US Supreme Court recognized the lack of professionalism of previous decisions,” the text read.
In 2020, the association established a support center for pregnancy crisis and carried out the “Help a mother, save a child from abortion” campaign, through which they raised the necessary funds for the center, Basilica.ro also wrote.
Who is the deputy who introduced the amendment?
AUR deputy Ilie-Alin Coleșa came to the center of attention a year ago, after speaking in the plenary of the Chamber of Deputies, where the registry of sexual predators in Romania was discussed.
In April 2025, he stated that little girls play with a certain type of dolls that, instead of bringing them more towards the experience of mothers, leads them to the thought of prostitution.
“From the time they are small, preschool girls receive, instead of ordinary dolls, dolls through which instead of experiencing the role of mother, they experience an opposite role, close to prostitution. The boys thus learn to look at the woman as an object to satisfy sexual desires, and not to found a family”, said Ilie-Alin Coleșa, at the Parliament's tribune.
Ilie-Alin Coleșa is on his second term as deputy of Cluj, having been elected on the AUR lists.
